How It Went Down — Per the Record

Federal prosecutors say Al Amin, 52, of Hollywood, ran the biggest verified score on The Dirt's board: more than $500,000 in SNAP food benefits, bought from recipients for approximately half their value in cash. According to the U. S.

Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, Amin and others then used the fraudulently obtained EBT cards to purchase bulk merchandise from various retailers — stocking his Hollywood convenience store and selling additional merchandise to other store owners in the area.

Amin is charged in a federal criminal complaint (case 26-mj-06617) with conspiracy to obtain unauthorized use, transfer, acquisition, or possession of benefits, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison on the SNAP conspiracy charge and up to 20 years on the wire fraud conspiracy count. HSI Miami and the USDA Office of Inspector General are investigating the case.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation — Amin is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
